SPECIAL GALLERY: EDOUARD CHIMOT
Best known for his voluptuous erotic etchings, Edouard Chimot is highly rated for his albums depicting, for example, scenes from the Montmartre, and as a prolific book illustrator. Born in Lille, Chimot studied under Levert and Mossa at the ‘École des Arts décoratifs’ in Nice, and later under Pharaon de Winter in Lille. As from 1903 he acquired his skills as a supreme etcher and started to exhibit his works from 1912. Chimot created his own inimitable and immediately recognisable style devoted to feminine beauty.
He
illustrated many books of Pierre Louÿs (Les
His rich œuvre is as coveted today by collectors as it
was during his lifetime.
